Miss Gay America began in at The Watch Your Hat and Coat Saloon in Nashville, TN, where Norman Jones (a.k.a. Norma Kristie) became the first-ever titleholder. Founded by Jerry Peak, the pageant aimed to celebrate the art of female illusion. After winning the title, Norman Jones purchased the pageant in , dedicating 30 years to growing it into the most prestigious and respected.

For the first time in history, the national Miss Gay America organization, under Mad Angel Entertainment, has created a new division to empower women and embrace diversity known as Miss Gay America Femme. As one of the pioneers in the Miss Gay America system of pageantry, we only saw fit that Oklahoma would become one of the first to add this division to our celebration of EXCELLENCE.
